1. Education
Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology, certified by the Philippine Board of Medical Technology and the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC)
2. Experience
a) Must have competency to the different technical procedures of the laboratory including proper correlation of test results to clinical diagnosis of the patients
b) Work experience must also be relevant to or have acquired experience to interpersonal relationship to health clients to be able to meet client’s satisfaction
c) Work experience must be pertinent to quality management system to the different laboratory techniques and processes of the laboratory
3. Knowledge and Skills
Knowledge of:
a) The different sections of the laboratory in terms of technicalities and theoretical aspects with emphasis to the methods, procedures, and principles of assays being performed
b) Computer technology being the latest trend among laboratory equipment
c) Biosafety policies and principles
d) Implementing guidelines, policies and standards requisite to the operation of the laboratory as well as the rules and regulations of the hospital
e) Research and medical/laboratory advancement
f) The different laboratory equipments installed to the section of responsibility with emphasis to preventive maintenance and calibration of the machine as well as basic troubleshooting technique
g) Interpersonal and professional and/or health clients’ relations
h) Laboratory management to be able to efficiently handle the section of responsibility
Skills:
a) Sensitivity for details for specimens requiring microscopic study
b) Color discrimination required to stain slide and to distinguish various shades and colors of specimens
c) Clerical agility and computer literacy
d) Human relations and/or professional relations with special skill in dealing with health clients especially the difficult patients
4. Training
Training and development activities necessary to enhance job-related knowledge, abilities, and skills such as:
a) Basic laboratory management and customer relations
b) Pre-counseling and post-counseling of patients for special tests
c) Latest technology and knowledge in laboratory medicine
d) Proficiency training and certification to any of the following as required:
i. Proficiency training in HIV, AIDS, and other blood-borne Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs)
ii. Proficiency training in Drug Testing
iii. Proficiency training in Clinical Microscopy and Sputum Microscopy
iv. Malarial Microscopy
v. Proficiency training in Drinking Water Analysis
vi. Proficiency training in Microbiology
