Bataan General Hospital and Medical Center, formerly known as Bataan Provincial Hospital was built on November 30, 1941. It served as a war hospital during the Second World War with only 20 beds and 17 personnel. The hospital has increased bed capacity from 20 to 150 in the 1960s and further increased to 200 bed capacity through the hospital’s integration with the provincial health office in 1983.
In year 1991, the hospital was devolved to the province of Bataan in lieu of the enactment of Republic Act 7160 otherwise known as the Local Government Code, and eventually renationalized in 1998 by virtue of Republic Act 8561 through the support of the late Bataan Governor Tet Garcia, making the Bataan Provincial Hospital into a Tertiary Level II Hospital elevating its bed capacity to 350. This transition was made possible under the direct control, supervision and management of the Department of Health.
Now BGH is operating as a Level 3 Teaching and Training Hospital thru the Republic Act 11107 enacted on October 2019 also renaming the hospital into Bataan General Hospital and Medical Center.
