• Perform Navigational watch;
• Fix the voyage plans, chart corrections and publication updates;
• Ensure all navigational instruments and light signals are working and tested regularly;
• In-charge of cargo operations, ballasting operations and mooring/unmooring of the ship;
• Designated as the Ship Security Officer (SSO) on some ships;
• Ensure all communication equipment are in good condition and ready for use;
• Prepare Maintenance Report Log (for communication equipment) to be submitted to the Technical Manager every month;
• Responsible for the VHF radio operation while the vessel is in navigation inside a channel, during docking and undocking maneuver and at any time the Master may require his presence at the bridge;
• Ensure all required communication equipment such as radio licenses, certificates and other related documents are updated and posted;
• Transmit and receive messages (incoming and outgoing) is properly noted by the Master;
• Provide a latest weather report, ensure that a copy is provided to the Master before the vessel leaves port and should be updated every twelve hours. Weather report should be updated for every six hours when adverse report is approaching; and
• Accepts other task as maybe assigned by the immediate superior in accordance to the need of the Department/vessel.
