Job Mission
The AVP - Labor and Compliance provides strategic legal support to internal stakeholders across AEV and AEV-managed companies (collectively referred to as the “Group”), with primary responsibilities in managing disputes and litigation, ensuring labor law compliance, reviewing contracts, and developing legal risk mitigation strategies.
The AVP - Labor and Compliance ensures the Group’s full compliance with all applicable labor laws and regulations, proactively protecting the organization from legal exposure. He/she supports the Chief Legal and Compliance Officer in assessing potential liabilities and rights arising from current or anticipated disputes and lead the formulation of swift, effective responses to emerging legal issues that could materially impact the Group.
As a strategic partner, the AVP - Labor and Compliance delivers timely, business-focused legal advice and insights, keeping the Group informed of evolving legal trends and developments that may affect its operations and strategic objectives.
Responsibilities
LITIGATION AND DISPUTE MANAGEMENT
Manage cases and disputes involving the Group, and issue legal advisory and opinion to ensure that the Group is shielded from potential liabilities or that such liabilities are within industry parameters or existing limits set by the Board of Directors or responsible officers;
Coordinate and supervise services rendered by the external legal counsels and other relevant firms or advisors employed to represent the Group
LABOR RELATIONS AND COMPLIANCE
Develop, implement, and monitor labor law and regulation compliance framework;
Provide guidance and education on labor and employment concerns including general labor standards, occupational health and safety, expat engagement, policies and other requirements by DOLE and other regulatory agencies, employee discipline, and post-employment;
Anticipate and address potential legal problems related to labor laws and regulations;
Ensure that the Group senior leadership is informed on legal developments and requirements
COMPLIANCE & CONTRACT REVIEW
Assist the Chief Compliance Officer in the review, assessment, drafting, and in cascading the Aboitiz compliance policies to relevant stakeholders;
Ensure proper monitoring and reporting of AEV’s compliance programs;
Review and preparation of contracts.
Additional Responsibilities
TRAINING AND EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS
Assists the Chief Compliance Officer in preparing information cascades, educational materials, training programs, e-learning modules, seminars and workshops on legal and compliance policies and requirements;
Assists the Chief Compliance Officer in ensuring that Management and the Board of Directors are kept abreast of developments in laws covering data privacy, competition laws, AMLA, anti-bribery and corruption, and other compliance related laws in the Philippines and in jurisdictions where the Group operates;
Contribute to the legal knowledge center to ensure that relevant stakeholders are informed of learnings from disputes and updated on current legal trends, developments, and other relevant legal information affecting business transactions.
LEGAL TEAM INTEGRATION
Handle or supervise the execution of team initiatives as may be assigned by the Team Leader and ensure that a high rating in the Team's Scorecard is achieved.
