ELECTRO TECHNICAL OFFICER - Reporting to the Chief Engineer, the Electro-Technical Officer (ETO) or equivalent engineer is responsible for the day-to-day maintenance, operation, and troubleshooting of all electronic, electrical, communication, and audio-visual systems onboard the vessel. This includes:
Ensuring the proper functioning of navigation and communication equipment such as radar, GPS, GMDSS, and internal communications systems
Maintaining and repairing automation systems, power management systems, and electronic control units
Conducting regular inspections and diagnostics to identify and resolve faults or potential failures
Supporting the safe and efficient operation of the vessel’s electrical network, including generators, transformers, switchboards, and emergency systems
Keeping detailed records of all electronic and electrical maintenance activities
Assisting in safety drills and emergency procedures involving electronic systems
Staying up to date with the latest technology and compliance requirements for maritime electronics
The ETO plays a critical role in ensuring the operational readiness and safety of the vessel’s technical systems.
