Position Summary:
As the Boat Captain you are responsible for the safe and efficient operation of a vessel, ensuring the safety of all passengers, crew, and cargo. This role includes navigation, vessel maintenance oversight, compliance with maritime laws and regulations, and supervision of crew members. The Captain must demonstrate excellent leadership, decision-making, and communication skills, maintaining professionalism at all times.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Vessel Operation & Navigation
• Operate and navigate the vessel safely in accordance with maritime laws and company policies.
• Plan routes and monitor weather conditions to ensure safe travel.
2. Crew Management
• Supervise, train, and manage crew members to ensure efficient operations and adherence to safety protocols.
• Conduct pre-departure briefings and assign daily duties.
3. Safety & Compliance
• Ensure compliance with the Coast Guard regulations and all applicable maritime laws.
• Conduct regular safety drills and inspections of safety equipment.
4. Maintenance Oversight
• Monitor the condition of the vessel and coordinate maintenance and repairs.
• Maintain logs and records of maintenance, incidents, and inspections.
5. Passenger or Cargo Management
• Ensure the safe boarding, transport, and disembarkation of passengers or cargo.
• Provide excellent customer service (for passenger vessels) or oversee secure cargo handling.
6. Emergency Response
• Act quickly and effectively in emergency situations, including mechanical failure, man overboard, or medical incidents.
• Maintain emergency protocols and ensure all crew are trained.
7. Record Keeping & Reporting
• Maintain accurate logs including voyage details, fuel usage, and compliance reports.
• Report incidents or accidents to appropriate authorities as required.
