Actual Position Title: Consultant -Safety

  • Provide vital safety leadership mentoring, support, and development to the Didipio OHS Manager and OHS leadership team by applying tier-1 industry safety leadership experience and best practices, with the primary goal of ensuring consistent and effective implementation of the OceanaGold Safety Management Systems and initiatives site-wide.
  • Mentor the Health & Safety leadership and wider team to enhance their impact and effectiveness.
  • Coach and where needed facilitate incident investigation processes to ensure quality outcomes delivered in a timely manner to reduce future business risk.
  • Assist in the review of existing work procedures to identify opportunities for improving hazard controls and operational safety.
  • Coach, advise, and support the site team in implementing and auditing Health & Safety Plans and Procedures.
  • Carry out risk assessments as required and implement systems to manage identified risks.
  • Support the development and continuous improvement of the volunteer emergency response team processes, capabilities and practical learning experiences.
  • Lead and coach planned safety inspections, housekeeping projects, and other safety initiatives
  • Coach the continuous improvement and delivery of training programs and processes.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Relevant qualification in Occupational Health and Safety or a related discipline (e.g., Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety or equivalent), demonstrating a strong foundation in WHS principles and compliance requirements.
  • Minimum of 10 years’ extensive experience in Health and Safety, including at least 5 years in a leadership role, preferably within the mining industry or other high-risk sectors.
  • Proven ability to coach and develop safety leaders, utilizing advanced influencing skills to proactively manage and resolve safety issues.
  • Strong expertise in hazard identification, application of critical controls, incident investigation, and corrective action planning to maintain and improve workplace safety standards.
  • Demonstrated experience delivering WHS training programs and fostering a culture that prioritizes safety at all organizational levels.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively across all levels of staff and leadership.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and keen attention to detail to manage complex safety initiatives and ensure compliance.
