This is a specialized position in the field of radiologic technology which handles to patient care and treatment delivery involving cancer patients. Their service should be in accordance with the regulatory requirement set by the Department of Health (DOH), Food and Drug Administration – Center for Device Regulation Radiation Health and Research (FDA-CDRRHR) and Philippine Nuclear Research Institute (PNRI). He/she must follow the designation and other responsibilities as supervised by the Senior Radiation Therapy Technologist (SR RTT) and Medical Physicist Level IV and above. He/she will be designated into certain levels depending on his competencies and experience in the field.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1) Ensures that the treatment units (C-arm, CT-simulator, brachytherapy units, linear accelerators) and accessory equipment (electron applicators, lead blocks cutter and moulder, air conditioning units inside the treatment room and console, CCTV cameras inside the treatment room, laser, intercom inside the treatment room, UPS, dehumidifiers, hygrometers, generator set, etc.) are all operational for the day-to-day clinical operations as advised by the service engineer to be reported to the senior RTT
2) Maintains the cleanliness and orderliness of treatment rooms, control rooms, blocker/cutter rooms by making sure that all treatment accessories such as electron applicators, lead blocks, immobilization devices, etc. are in proper order including the regular and proper disposal of immobilization devices and other wastes inside the mentioned areas;
3) Ensure that the patients are receiving radiation treatment understands the importance of treatment procedures
4) Ensures that the correct patient setup is applied in the CT-scan for treatment planning and not for diagnostic procedures for accurate treatment planning
5) Cautiously and carefully position the patient such that the useful beam is directed and limited to the anatomical area to be treated
6) Making sure of application of the appropriate accessories (such as electron applicators, electron blocks, bolus, etc.) as indicated in the approved treatment plan in order to achieve high accuracy of dose prescribed
7) Ensure that the fractionated dose is administered as prescribed on a daily basis and that the correct patient receives the appropriate prescribed dose in the correct treatment site
8) Maintains daily records and document technical details of the treatment administered to the patient in the designated patient treatment chart
9) Observe the clinical progress of the patient undergoing treatment which may affect treatment procedures to be reported to the Medical Physicist and to the designated Radiation Oncologist
10) Perform and document the results of routine tasks such as daily quality control tests and other monitoring as designated by the medical physicist for the safe use of licensed machine as established in the radiation safety program
11) Assist the Medical Physicist in the calibration, quality control and maintenance of the treatment equipment including the supporting diagnostic equipment such as the CT-simulator and C-arm if present
12) To be always alert and prepared for any radiation emergency incidents or accidents that may arise during the course of the radiation therapy treatment
13) Works hand-in-hand with the senior RTT in monitoring or reporting of any abnormal incidents or accidents that may occur in the radiotherapy facility, especially incidents that deal with the treatment of the patient and the machines used in treatment
14) Maintains the required room temperature in the treatment room (both inside the linear accelerator, machine service room and brachytherapy treatment rooms), CT-Simulation rooms if present, UPS room, etc. including setting the prescribed schedule of switching on/off of air conditioning units including back-up units and general maintenance
15) Assist the senior RTT in maintaining of the upkeep of the treatment room, mould room, UPS room and control console
16) Assist the senior RTT in implementing the radiology technology internship guidelines as recommended by their respective university or school in alignment to the company’s protocol
17) May perform other tasks or functions that may be assigned from time to time
