Job Description

A. JOB SUMMARY
Physical therapists (PTs) are highly educated, licensed health care professionals who can help patients reduce pain and improve or restore mobility — in many cases without expensive surgery and often reducing the need for long-term use of prescription medications and their side effects. (APTA)
B. STATEMENT OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
a.Clinical Duties and Responsibilities:
i. Responsible for providing safe and effective technique of patient care through assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient and family needs in order to promote optimal recovery and rehabilitation.
ii. Responsible to promote safe and effective care to all age groups, from infants to geriatrics, coordinating care with the Physiatrist and others involved in the patient’s care.
iii. Review Physiatrist’s referral and patient medical record to help determine diagnosis and physical therapy treatment program.
iv. Provide expertise in comprehensive assessment, overall evaluation of individual patient needs, and plan implementation.
v. Develop a quality of patient management and satisfaction.
vi. Instruct and assist patients in the safe and effective use of treatment equipment prescribed for their therapy.
vii. Help patients adapt to the use of wheelchairs, braces, canes, and other assistive devices.
viii. Provide physical therapy treatment in both inpatient and outpatient departments.
ix. Maintain a professional appearance and good personal hygiene.
x. Terminate treatment objectives when met and/or when the patient has achieved maximum benefit from rehabilitation services.
xi. Recognize contraindications or inappropriate treatments which may be health-threatening to the patient.
xii. Provide information to the patient regarding expected benefits and any reasonable alternatives.
xiii. Administer a personalized physical therapy treatment with integrated use of therapeutic modalities, manual therapy, and strengthening exercises.
xiv. Handle all rehabilitation patients including geriatrics, neurological/neurosurgical, and neuromuscular conditions.
xv. Create individualized home exercise programs for each patient after treatment and ensure treatment procedures are continued at home.
xvi. Provide alterations in the program as the patient progresses, ensuring that changes align with therapy goals and are approved by the Physiatrist.
xvii. Maintain patient information confidentiality.
xviii. Adhere to infection control policies and procedures to protect patients, self, and co-workers.
xix. Maintain a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
xx. Ensure proper supply levels are maintained for patient treatment.
b. Administrative Duties and Responsibilities:
i. Responsible for the requisition of supplies.
ii. Understand and adhere to the hospital’s policies and procedures.
iii. Maintain adequate attendance and punctuality.
iv. Prepare timely, appropriate, and accurate documentation in accordance with accepted documentation standards.
v. Ensure operation of equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements, following manufacturer’s instructions, and requesting repairs when needed.
vi. Participate in Continuing Medical Education (CME) and professional development.
vii. Perform all other tasks and duties as assigned by the Chief Physical Therapist.
C. DIRECT REPORTS
Reports to the Chief Physical Therapist.
D. QUALIFICATIONS
a. Candidate must have a Bachelor's Degree in Physical Therapy.
b. Must be licensed in the Philippines.
c. Minimum of one (1) year recent hospital experience; experience in acute and outpatient settings preferred.
d. Must possess good moral character.
e. Must be in good physical condition.
E. TRAINING / SKILLS NEEDED
a. Goal-oriented and patient-focused.
b. Possesses strong communication, listening, and clinical decision-making skills.
c. Able to work with a variety of people.
d. Good interpersonal skills and customer service focus.
e. Aware of current and emerging trends, techniques, methods, and research in the field of physical therapy and treatment.
F. MACHINES / EQUIPMENT USED
a. Therapeutic equipment (e.g., pulley systems, weights)
b. Electrical modalities and machines (e.g., traction units, ultrasound, partial weight-bearing systems)
c. Office equipment (e.g., personal computer, fax machine)
