1.Assists in the admission of the patient.
1.1.1.Takes weight and height of patient when indicated.
2.Accompanies patient to room.
2.1 Assists in bringing patients’ things and baggage to room.
3.Assists in the discharge of patients.
3.1.1.Accompanies discharged patient from ward/room and helps in carrying their things and baggage.
4.Assists with other activities directly concerned with patient care.
4.1.Responds to patients’ call.
4.2.Takes temperature, pulse rate, respiratory rate and blood pressure of patient.
4.3.Gives cleansing bath (complete and partial bedbaths) to wholly or partially compensatory patients.
4.4.Makes bed or change bed linens.
4.5.Gives back care ( i.e back rub, and other special care) when necessary.
4.6.Gives eye, ear and nose care and oral hygiene to conscious and unconscious patients when necessary.
4.7.Cares for the patient’s hair and provides hair shampoo (in bed or at lavabo) when necessary.
4.8.Assists the patient in donning clothes.
4.9.Lifts, moves and places patient in the following position.
4.9.1. dorsal recumbent
4.9.2. fowler’s
4.9.3. prone
4.9.4. semi- fowler’s
4.9.5. sims
5. Assists registered nurse in the care of incontinent and acutely ill patients.
5.1. Provides urinal/ bedpan when needed.
5.1.1. Observe character of feces, urine and vomitus and reports to nurse in charge or charge nurse.
6. Collects specimens (e.g feces, urine and sputum) and sends them to the in-patient laboratory.
7. Gives treatment under the supervision of the nurse.
7.1. cleansing enema
7.2. perineal care and/or perilite exposure
7.3. hot sitz bath
7.4. steam inhalation
7.5. application of ice caps and collars
7.6. daily weight and/or abdominal gith monitoring
7.7. measuring fluid intake and output
7.8. emptying drainage for monitoring (JP drain, urine bag, colostomy bag)
8. Feeds helpless patients, including those receiving oxygen therapy.
Note: Nursing Auxiliaries are not allowed to give extraoral tube feedings (e.g NGT, PEG tube, jejunostomy tube feedings) to both adult and pediatric patients.
9. Transfers patient to another room or unit.
9.1 Transport patient by bed, stretcher or wheelchair, to another unit/department as necessary.
9.2 Uses comfort and safety devices for patients needing such as:
9.2.1. footboard
9.2.2. fracture board
9.2.3. bed adjustments
9.2.4. overbed table
9.2.5. pillows
9.2.6. rubber ring
9.2.7. sand bags
9.2.8. side rails
10. Care for patient in partial body cast.
11. Performs the following procedures under the supervision of nurse.
11.1. Administers oxygen inhalation by catheter, cannula or mask
11.2. Suctions oro-pharyngeal secretions
11.3. Assists in CPR, ambubagging
12. Reports to the charge nurse any accidents, complaints of patients, signs and symptoms he/she observed in patients, out of order equipment and furnitures.
13. Cooperates with the rest of the nursing team in promoting and maintaining a clean, orderly environment conducive to the optimum comfort, rest and safety of patients.
14. Cares for the body after death.
15. Acts as receptionist:
15.1 Visitors
15.1.1. Direct visitors to patient’s room.
15.1.2. Interprets rules and regulations of the hospital to visitors.
15.1.3. Refers visitors to staff nurses for information concerning patient’s condition.
15.1.4. Requests visitors when necessary
16. Locates the staff nurses when doctors need their presence during rounds.
17. Assists with records and reports.
17.1. Charts the following:
17.1.1. Temperature, pulse rate, respiratory rate, blood pressure
17.1.2. Fluid intake and output
17.1.3. Hourly urine output
17.1.4. Frequency, amount, and character of stool and vomitus
17.1.5. Weight and/or abdominal girth
17.1.6. Amount of output from drainage tubes (e.g JP drain, urine bag)
18. Requests and maintain adequate supply of linen and other items needed in the unit.
19. Assists in receiving, distributing and storing equipment, supplies and other items of use.
20. Check receipts of linen.
21. Procure supplies from the Nursing Office, distributes and arranges them properly in the unit ready for use.
22. Maintains cleanliness and order of the unit.
22.1. Cares for the patient’s environment seeing to it that it is clean and orderly.
23. Removes unnecessary equipment and supplies from the patient’s room.
24. Cleans the following equipment in the unit.
24.1. Patients’ chart holder
24.2. Charting table
24.3. Sphygmomanometer, Stethoscope
24.4. Stretcher
24.5. Wheelchair
24.6. IV stands
24.7. Refrigerator
25. Prepares room/ward for next admission.
26. Messengerial duties under the direction of the nurse.
26.1. Borrows and returns equipment/supplies to and from the Central Service and other units/departments in the hospital.
26.2. Brings requisition slips and secures requested articles to corresponding unit or departments of the hospital.
27. Transports and maintains oxygen facilities and supply to areas where it is needed.
28. Acts as member of the ambulance team when needed.
