A Nursing Aide provides basic patient care under the supervision of a registered nurse or physician. They assist with the daily activities of patients and ensure their comfort, hygiene, and safety, playing a vital support role in the overall healthcare delivery within the hospital.
Key Responsibilities:
Patient Care:
- Assist patients with daily personal hygiene such as bathing, grooming, oral care, and toileting.
- Help patients with mobility, including lifting, turning, transferring from bed to wheelchair, and ambulation.
- Provide assistance during feeding, or feed patients as necessary.
- Measure and record vital signs (temperature, blood pressure, respiratory rate, and pulse), and report any abnormalities to the nurse.
Support to Medical Staff:
- Report patient conditions or any changes in behavior or health status to the nurse on duty.
- Assist nurses and doctors during examinations and treatments.
- Prepare and transport patients for diagnostic tests, surgery, or other medical procedures.
Environment Maintenance:
- Keep patient rooms clean, organized, and properly stocked with necessary supplies.
- Ensure cleanliness and sterilization of medical tools and equipment used in patient care.
- Maintain and transport clean linen and dispose of soiled items according to hospital policies.
Documentation and Records:
- Accurately document patient care activities and observations in the hospital records or logs.
- Assist with inventory of medical supplies and materials used in patient care.
Emotional Support:
- Provide emotional and psychological support to patients and their families.
- Promote a respectful and compassionate environment aligned with the hospital’s values.
