JOB SUMMARY
This position collaborates with other laboratory personnel to carry out an excellent quality of healthcare service. Medical technologists are mainly responsible for the collection, processing, and analysis of clinical specimens/body fluids. Medical technologist collaborates with the pathologist to ensure that the laboratory results have undergone a series of careful analysis and verification.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Performs specimen collection such as phlebotomy or nasopharyngeal/oropharyngeal swabbing.
2. Determines the specimen validity and implements specimen acceptance and rejection criteria.
3. Handling of biological specimens with utmost care and precaution. Implements biosafety measures in handling potentially hazardous materials.
a. Sample reception (ensures adherence to triple packaging system) of SARS-COV-2 specimens.
b. Labelling (careful and systematic assignment of lab numbers to specimens, done inside a level 2 biosafety cabinet).
4. Strictly adheres to the established standard operating procedures in performing laboratory assays and operation of laboratory equipment.

c. RT-PCR data analysis
d. Clinical laboratory: Hematology, Chemistry, Serology, Clinical Microscopy
5. Involved in minor troubleshooting of machines and equipment, the technologist is responsible in performing technologist-level machine maintenance recommended by the machine manufacturer, and responsible in raising concerns to the immediate superior whenever a higher level of troubleshooting is required.
6. Responsible in performing quality control measures in all laboratory assays. The position is also responsible in raising critical results to the pathologist for further examination and verification.
7. Active involvement in the performance of NEQAS (National External Quality Assurance System) sample processing. The technologist is responsible in ensuring that the laboratory assay performance is aligned with the accepted performance level determined by National Reference Laboratories.
8. Collaborates with receptionists, encoders, swabbers, and doctors in the overall laboratory workflow to carry out an excellent healthcare service.
