ADMINISTRATIVE:
1. Acts as the Pathology Department Head.
2. Establish Department policies, plan, program, and activities.
3. Implement organizational development of the department.
4. Actively participate in institutional and division committees.
5. Review and approve documents.
6. Conduct regular meetings in the department
7. Identify and establish adequate procedures and systems for the purchase and maintenance of facilities and equipment
8. Plan, establish and maintain the work of the laboratory ensuring compliance with the principles of good laboratory practices.
9. Plan and execute expansion to full service routine diagnostic laboratory (with district sections for Hematology, Clinical Chemistry, Clinical Microscopy, Immunoserology, Histopath / Autopsy Microbiology and Molecular Biology) to decrease reliance on outsource laboratory testing and cater fully to the clinical laboratory needs of RITM patients.
10. Maintain coordination and cooperation with other national and international agencies and organizations involved in the external quality assessment programs.
11. Improve management of all sections in terms of operations, quality assurance, schedules and services.
12. Lead ISO 15189 for Routine Services.
13. Oversee the operations of the different sections of the department.
14. Improvement and expand Anatomic Pathology Services (Histopath / Autopsy , Electron Microscopy) through establishment of new essays (immunohistochemistry for tissue diagnosis of pathogens; flowcytometry; et cetera) and upgrading of equipment.
15. Ensure full implementation of LIS and Pathogen Asset Control System.
16. Ensure full implementation of Central Laboratory Reception and Results Release.
17. Performs other special duties assigned by the Division Chief.
RESEARCH:
18. Increase Research Output of the Department with at least 1 output per section.
19. Conduct research either within the department or in collaboration with other research investigators.
TRAINING:
1. Identify the needs for training and continuing education of the staff.
2. Implement training program for the advancement of the laboratory staff.
3. Establish Pathology Residency Training Program and Pathologist Fellowship training on Microbiology.
4. Ensure 100% staff proficiency.
