Job Description:
Design Manager has the overall responsibility of managing available resources for the completion of design projects. The incumbent must work independently, exercise initiative and judgment in the performance of a broad range of responsibilities, including the ability to communicate with a diverse group of employees to ensure understanding of engineering design goals and objectives and organizational policies and procedures.
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Implements company strategic plan goals and objectives related to the engineering design functions.
2. Manages and mentors engineering design staff, assign work and evaluate performance.
3. Manages internal and external resources (consultants) towards the completion of design projects.
4. Works with project operations, purchasing section and staff assigned to handle data management to ensure project objectives are achieved.
5. Reviews and approves all conceptual designs, preliminary plans, final plans, specifications, and operational memos for all mechanical and electrical projects.
6. Monitors and controls design project schedules and deadlines. Implements corrective actions when needed.
7. Attends to client’s enquiries with respect to engineering design projects.
8. Works with and communicates effectively with many groups and disciplines within client or general contractor including its executive management, project operation, QA/QS, and its own design engineering personnel.
9. Maintains and develops existing supplier relationships and development of new supplier relationships to assure costs effective services for client projects.
10. Evaluates proposals and recommends to management regarding supplier selection.
11. Conducts interview and selection of applicants for recommendation to the positions in the Design Department.
