The Strategy Team is responsible for supporting the Board of Directors (BOD) in portfolio strategy decisions and targeted Strategic Business Units (SBUs) in the development of their corresponding strategies.
Portfolio-level strategy: Support the BOD in making portfolio or “market choices” – entry and exit – including new and existing markets through various channels (e.g. wholly-owned, JV, investment fund), taking into account shifts in technology, customer preferences, and evolution of business models.
SBU-level strategy: Support SBUs within their market to identify and understand developments in technology, preferences, regulations and the impact of these on strategy, prospects, and priorities. Help SBUs spot, assess, and take decisions on new opportunities.
Duties/Responsibilities
Support formulation of strategic plans and strategic initiative
Conduct research to spot changes / trends in markets and assess impact on Aboitiz Equity Ventures, Inc. (AEV) and SBUs and new opportunities, develop / analyze options and responses to changes in collaboration with SBUs and key stakeholders, and develop / analyze new opportunities considered attractive by BOD
Support Strategy execution
Work with SBUs to facilitate execution of strategy, put in place monitoring measures, including on “input metrics”, to drive performance and progress towards strategic goals, create and update a business and organizational dashboard for impact and effectiveness
Run Strategy Process
Support AEV’s portfolio strategy planning exercise, introduce ideas and new approaches to setting strategy at AEV and SBUs and streamlining the process over time, coordinate annual strategy exercise (in coordination with budgeting process) at assigned SBUs, facilitate ongoing strategy dialogue at AEV and SBU level
Special Projects
Handle specific projects related to strategy where needed, at Portfolio and SBU level, support review of investments from strategy perspective, capture innovations and new knowledge created internally, and share throughout the organization where relevant
Modelling of strategic impact of various initiatives
Modelling capital available, modelling impact of strategic initiatives on SBUs, and modelling impact of various market changes and trends
Develop assigned initiatives
Size market opportunities, assess competitive situations, assess internal capabilities, assess best way forward to capture opportunities, and review of potential transactions / JVs / acquisition opportunities

Analytical skills - Highly developed analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to bring together diverse data and information and form sound judgments and insights
Business experience - Substantial exposure to and participation in business and financial planning and decision making
Business plan development - Experience developing and evaluating business plans including market analysis, strategy development and financial modelling
Strategic thinking - Ability to think strategically and cope with business complexity through the use of key strategic frameworks (e.g., 5 forces, SWOT analysis, internal and external analysis, etc)
Performance metrics - Experience developing and evaluating performance metrics for organizations
Communication skills - Highly developed written and verbal communication skills
Modeling skills - Strong financial modelling skills
Others - Preference for expertise in industries involved with power, banking, commodities, cement, and infrastructure
