Job Description

OPERATIONS GEOLOGIST

  • Real-Time Data Interpretation: Provide onshore geological support for offshore drilling operations by interpreting and analyzing geological data from the field, including well logs, mud logs, cuttings, and geophysical data.
  • Geosteering Support: Collaborate with offshore teams to provide real-time geosteering guidance based on geological data, helping optimize wellbore positioning and well delivery.
  • Well Planning & Design: Assist in the planning and design of offshore wells by providing geological input on well paths, formation characteristics, and potential hazards.
  • Formation Evaluation: Analyze geological data from wells (such as drilling logs, core samples, and mud logs) to evaluate formation properties, lithology, and fluid characteristics.
  • Geohazard Identification & Mitigation: Assess and identify potential geohazards in the subsurface, including high-pressure zones, faulting, and unstable formations, and recommend strategies to mitigate risks.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or College Degree in Applied Geology or with relevant certification in offshore safety training (e.g., BOSIET, HUET) preferred.
  • Communication: Strong communication skill in English or Australian English, both verbal and written, to work effectively with offshore drilling crews, onshore engineers, and other departments.
  • Geological Expertise: In-depth knowledge and in interpreting geological data, including mud logs, wireline logs, cuttings, and core data for offshore wells.
  • Geohazard Management: Ability to identify and mitigate geological risks such as unstable formations, high-pressure zones, or other potential operational hazards.
  • Operational Insight: Understanding of offshore drilling operations, well construction, and completion processes, and how geological data influences well delivery.
  • Software Proficiency: Knowledgeable of geological software for well planning, data analysis, and interpretation (e.g., Petrel, Landmark, or equivalent).
  • Safety and Compliance: Solid understanding of offshore safety standards and the ability to ensure operations comply with environmental and safety regulations.
