In the oil and gas industry, an Electrical Technician's job involves maintaining, repairing, and installing electrical systems and equipment, ensuring safety and compliance with industry standards, and troubleshooting issues to keep operations running smoothly.
Key Responsibilities:
Maintenance and Repair:
Conduct regular maintenance and repairs on electrical equipment, wiring, and systems.
Troubleshoot and diagnose electrical problems, using testing equipment to identify issues.
Repair or replace faulty components, wiring, and fixtures.
Installation:
Install new electrical and electronic equipment and wiring according to industry standards and company procedures.
Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical diagrams.
Label system components for easy identification and maintenance.
Safety and Compliance:
Ensure all electrical work complies with relevant safety regulations and industry standards (e.g., National Electrical Code).
Follow company procedures for electrical isolation and lockout/tagout.
Maintain a high level of awareness of health, safety, and environmental (HSE) issues.
Other Duties:
Participate in pre-commissioning, commissioning, and start-up of new equipment and facilities.
Perform high voltage switching and operate generators.
Conduct preventive and corrective maintenance work on field electrical equipment.
Compile accurate reports of work performed and any incidents affecting electrical equipment.
Liaise with other maintenance and production personnel to ensure smooth operations.
