Job Description

  • Customer relations officers are often the first team members to hear concerns from customers or clients. Their primary job duty is to assist people by answering their questions and providing them with the resources they need. Customer relations officers may communicate via phone, email, social media platforms or online chat systems. They may also speak with people in person if they work on the sales floor of a physical establishment. By actively listening to customers and showing they care about their experience, these professionals elevate the service their company provides.
  • Since customer relations officers receive direct feedback from customers, it's often their responsibility to relay important information to other departments and leaders within the company. They may share specific concerns to help improve the products or services the company or organisation offers. Customer relations officers may also liaise between customers and other departments to help resolve issues in a timely manner.
  • When a customer has an issue with a product, service or experience with an organisation, these professionals thoroughly assess the situation. When a client brings an issue to a customer relations officer's attention, the officer may ask for additional background information to determine what happened. Once they understand the full scope of the situation, they can use their knowledge of company policies and customer service experience to develop an effective solution. Customer relations officers can also share the information they gather with other team members to prevent a similar situation from occurring again in the future.
  • Customer relations officers also strive to maintain positive relationships with people who already use their organisation's products or services. They may contact existing customers to share helpful resources, ask for feedback or provide information about new products, services and features. Keeping current customers satisfied can increase repeat purchases. They may also try to upsell to customers by promoting upgrades, which can increase revenue. Sometimes, customer relations officers are responsible for networking with potential clients and generating more leads. They may work closely with the marketing and sales teams to support the overall growth of an organisation.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in administration or a related field.
    • A minimum of 3 years' experience.
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
    • Proficient in all Microsoft applications.
    • Superior product knowledge.
    • A team player with leadership skills.
