The Proposal Copy Editor is responsible for the editing and proofing of proposal foundations, as well as associated documents, to ensure overall quality – including but not limited to consistent formats and styles, proper grammatical construction, and clarity of thought.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Read through documents, correct spelling, grammar, punctuation, format, awkward sentences, and inconsistences.
- Rewrite where necessary, verify arithmetic, cross check information, and question discussion/logic/argument (edit) for clarity of thought.
- Compare the most recent iterations of copy against previous versions and ensure that all revisions were accurately made.
- Correct grammatical problems (proof).
- Ensure compliance with corporate formatting standards, including heading level order, spacing, bullets/numbered items, and use of serial comma.
- Ensure consistency in format and content.
- Provide quality control for foundations and all associated documents produced by technical writers.
- Determine type of proof/edit required for presentations, proposals, and reports while maintaining high quality.
- Effectively work with the team in assessing requirements to develop and submit the proposal foundations.
- Meet deadlines, both internal and external.
- Work under time pressure.
- Prioritize workload to maintain tight schedules of day-to-day operations.
- Set up documents for final copy, ensuring position of graphics and tables in text are correct.
- Stay abreast of editing technology, investigate, and recommend improvements to maintain state-of-the-art capability.
- Serve as subject matter expert on editorial topics, corporate formatting standards, and the Chicago Manual of Style.
- Develop other technical documents such as environmental reports, operations manuals, and other deliverables, as necessary.
- Quickly gain expertise in the corporate proposal development guidelines, processes, methodologies, and formatting standards.
