The Clinical Instructor is a faculty member with the additional responsibility of supervising students of his/her college as they apply their classroom learning’s to actual practice in the context of clinical practicum posting
Specific Task/Accountabilities
1. Interprets the mission and vision of SISC College of Nursing in relation to the planning and delivery of nursing care, within the framework of the hospital/facility/agency.
2. Confers with professional staff involved in the planning and implementation of nursing care in the hospital/facility/agency and incorporates health promotion activities in the community.
3. Interprets the program curriculum to the nursing staff and other appropriate staff within the hospital/facility/agency.
4. Provides the students and the hospital/facility/agency with documents determined by the clinical coordinator to be necessary, such as student schedules and students’ assignments.
5. Serves as a role model.
6. Maintains current clinical competency and knowledge
7. Attends mandatory Orientation at a designated location on campus at SISC in general and College of Nursing in particular.
8. Completes all training as directed by the Dean/Chairperson.
9. Works with Clinical Coordinator to evaluate the agency and unit for continued use as a clinical site.
10. Schedules an end of rotation evaluation conference with the hospital/facility/agency (nursing manager) at the conclusion of the academic year to review any student, staff and/or agency issues. Submits a written summary of the evaluation conference to the Clinical Coordinator (for filing according to BSN program accreditation requirements).
11. Reports to the Clinical Course Coordinator, Chairperson and Dean
Responsibilities related to clinical agencies:
1. Orients self to the hospital/facility/agency to be used for the student experience.
2. Abides by the hospital/facility/agency’s requirements, especially regarding policies, charting, parking etc.
3. Meets all compliance requirements of the clinical sites assigned.
4. With agreement of the Clinical Coordinator, confers with appropriate personnel within the agency to plan appropriate student learning experiences. Maintains and supports all safety measures.
5. Serves as a positive liaison between the School of Nursing and the hospital/facility/agency.
