Confirm findings with supervisor to determine whether to repair or replace unit
Discuss work with supervisor
Inspect and test mechanical units to locate faults and malfunctions
Inspect motor in operation
Review work orders
Road test motor vehicles in which repairs, diagnostics, and maintenance have been performed to identify concerns and ensure quality control
Test automotive systems and components
Adjust, repair, or replace parts and components of automotive systems
Repair or replace mechanical units or components
Test and adjust repaired systems to manufacturer's specifications
Perform scheduled maintenance service
Test and adjust units to specifications
Complete reports to record problems and work performed
Coach and instruct apprentices
Test drive customers’ vehicles after service and/or repairs are completed
Comply with TAG and manufacturer policies, along with local, provincial, and federal laws, including those governing the rules of the road and health and safety
Diagnose, repair, and perform maintenance requirements in accordance with manufacturer guidelines
Perform duties as outlined on repair orders and discuss status with Service Advisors
Ensure internal/external customer vehicles are protected by using proper covers, such as seat, floor, and fender covers
Maintain vehicle records by documenting service, repairs, vehicle status and future repair requirements into DMS system
Keep shop equipment operating by following operating instructions, troubleshooting breakdowns, maintaining supplies, performing preventative maintenance, and notifying Service Management of equipment conditions
Remain abreast of product knowledge, manufacturer updates, bulletins and recalls, and technical knowledge
Achieve and maintain CSI and fixed right the first time scores a regional/target averages
Diagnose and report existing conditions and additional repairs to the appropriate parties
Communicates effectively with Service and Parts staff
Provide written, prioritized quotes for necessary recommendations to service repair

Qualifications/Requirements

Requirements
Education: Completion of secondary school is required.
Experience: Completion of a four-year automotive service technician apprenticeship program or a combination of over four years of work experience and industry courses in automotive technology is required to be eligible for trade certification.
Eligible hours in the trade: 6360
A valid driver’s license (class 5) is required for vehicle testing and driving.
Strong asset if the candidate can operate manual transmissions.
Experience in diagnosis and repair of different vehicles is required. German vehicles preferred.
Experience operating diagnostic and scan tools is required.
Experience working with OEM tools and reading shop manuals is required.
Experience with all automotive shop tools and equipment. (Alignment racks, mounter and balancer, brake fluid machine, coolant machine, AC machine) is required.
Ability to acquire their own tools in Canada
Experience using dealership software is a strong asset.
Ability to challenge the skilled trades BC red seal certificate is a strong asset.
