FIRST ASSISTANT ENGINEER (General Cargo)
Key Responsibilities:
Supervision and Maintenance:
Supervising daily maintenance, operation, and repair of engine room machinery.
Logkeeping:
Maintaining detailed logs of engine room activities, such as inspections, repairs, and maintenance.
Troubleshooting and Repairs:
Identifying and resolving mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues in the engine room.
Safety and Emergency Procedures:
Ensuring compliance with safety regulations, conducting emergency drills (e.g., engine room evacuation, firefighting), and assuming responsibility for life-saving equipment in emergencies.
Crew Training and Development:
Assisting in the training and development of junior engineers and engine room personnel.
Preventive Maintenance:
Assisting in planning and implementing preventive maintenance programs to ensure the longevity and reliability of equipment.
Communication and Collaboration:
Communicating effectively with the Chief Engineer and other crew members, collaborating on repairs and maintenance tasks.
Customer Service:
Providing excellent customer service to passengers or clients, if applicable.
Compliance with Regulations:
Ensuring adherence to all applicable laws, regulations, and standards related to vessel operations and safety.
Specific Tasks:
Operating and maintaining propulsion engines, boilers, deck machinery, electrical systems, refrigeration, and sanitation equipment.
Inspect engines and other vessel equipment for service requirements.
Participating in the repair or replacement of defective parts and equipment.
Preparing the engine room for arrival, departure, or standby.
Overseeing major overhauls on critical equipment.
Conducting essential engine room tasks, including bilge and sewage pumping.
Maintaining cleanliness and orderliness in the engine room.
Performing deckhand duties as required.
