The dream and vision of Mr. K.P. Yao, Founder and Chairman of Zenco Sales, Inc., was to “SHOE THE PHILIPPINES”.
From a one-door establishment to a wholesale trading centre in one of the biggest cities in the metropolis and into becoming the country’s No. 1 footwear trader, Zenco Sales, Inc. is a towering monument of a big dream.
Mr. K.P. Yao initially opened two (2) stores in Manila in 1962 to accommodate the increasing consumer demands for footwear products. By mid-1960’s, provincial expansion and growth began. From then on, Zenco‘s store outlets opened one after the other in key cities and municipalities all over the country bearing the trade name FOOTSTEP. The direction is geared towards penetrating more markets whenever and wherever feasible.
Within four (4) decades of its successful existence, Zenco has achieved prominence in the shoe industry that has put it consistently in the list of the top 500 corporations of the Philippines in the last twenty years. It now has 100 outlets, 82 of which are directly operated by the company and the other 18 are franchise stores. Its operations include wholesale and retail activities and are competently manned by 1,800 highly-trained sales force, who are all committed to “EXCELLENCE” not only in sales output but also in service and people.
The company’s product lines continue to dominate the market and post significant increase in sales volume over the past years. These include sandals, athletic shoes, leather and synthetic shoes, children shoes, boots, socks, among others.
Zenco - FOOTSTEP is capable of providing a broad range of consumers belonging to the Class B, C, and D brackets. It carries a wide array of shoe brands and trademarks which are crafted, developed, and produced locally using Filipino ingenuity. Currently, however, the company is also sourcing its products from abroad where new styles and materials usually originate.
At present, Zenco enjoys the confidence and support of around 500 suppliers. The company was at one time even granted a license to use Walt Disney characters on its footwear products. And to complement its existing product lines and thus lengthen even more its longest line of shoes, Zenco has also entered into Distributorship Agreement with over 30 local shoe manufacturers and suppliers.
Keeping every angle of the organization at the right perspective, the company’s branch operations nationwide are ably backed-up by its nerve center, the Head Office, where Finance, Purchasing, Sales, Corporate Advertising, Internal Audit, Human Resources Development, Computer Technology, among others, help provide support services, monitoring, and internal control to make Zenco - FOOTSTEP branches become more organizationally efficient and effective. Within the purview of modernization and the need to heighten the company’s responsiveness to market needs in a rapidly changing “State-of-the-Art” environment, as early as 1979, Zenco has equipped the branch and head office operations with the latest in information technology and thenceforth, has constantly upgraded its computer systems resulting to a better, faster, and accurate sales and inventory analysis, feedback on product movements, accounts receivables, data summarization, and inventory consolidation.
As Zenco adapts to the challenges of the times, its strategy to widen even more its market coverage and stage various innovations in high-end retail and wholesale trading shall be its corporate objective and topmost priority in the years to come. This, in the long-term shall be the key to the organization’s sustained growth, competitiveness, and profitability that will ultimately open more windows of big dreams coming true.
