Mindanao Energy Systems, Inc. (MINERGY) is an Independent Power Producer
or IPP which was established by the Cagayan Electric Power and Light Company
Inc. (CEPALCO), Cagayan de Oro’s sole private distribution utility, in 1992 to
address the crippling power supply crisis. It is the first independent power producer
in Mindanao region to sell directly to a private distribution utility.
MINERGY’s main office is located in Barangay Tablon, Cagayan de Oro City. This
is 12km from Cagayan de Oro's city proper and is also the site of its Diesel Power
Plants.
Over the years, the company has established other power plants located in two
provinces: Misamis Oriental, in the areas of Plaridel, Claveria and Balingasag; and
Bukidnon in the area of Barangay Kili-og, Baungon.
Through MINERGY, CEPALCO was able to face the challenge of providing
consistent and reliable service to its customers in its franchise area covering
Cagayan de Oro City and the municipalities of Tagoloan, Villanueva and Jasaan
in Misamis Oriental, including the 3,000 hectare PHIVIDEC Industrial Estate,
thereby it sustainably reduced, if not avoided, the incidence of power curtailments
imposed by the Transmission System Operator all throughout Mindanao.
Due to the high reliability and availability of the power plants owned and operated
by MINERGY, the company has been able to serve reliably the power
requirements of CEPALCO.
