Maco, like many of the municipalities of Compostela Valley Province, now Davao de Oro was once unknown in geography. It was a remote village located along the coast of Davao Gulf though only about twelve (12) kilometers from a bigger town called Magugpo (Presently known as Tagum City).

Maco was under the political jurisdictions of Tagum at its early stage, but after the creation of the Municipality of Dona Alicia, now it was changed to Mabini, Maco became a part of that created municipality. On June 17, 1967, Municipality of Maco was born by virtue of Republic Act 4975 and at present with the grace of the Almighty Father and with the good management and governance, the municipality belongs to the First Class municipality under the leadership of the very supportive and dynamic Municipal Mayor, Hon. Arthur Carlos Voltaire R. Rimando catering all the services under the flagship program of the present administration SERBISYO. LGU Maco is one of the municipalities of the Province of Davao de Oro.
