SHORT HISTORY
Janiuay Rural Bank was incorporated in October, 1956 and obtained its Certificate of Authority from the Central Bank (now Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas) to operate as a rural bank on December 15, 1956. It opened its door that month as a full functioning rural bank in the Municipality of Janiuay, Province of Iloilo. Janiuay RB was the second rural bank established in Iloilo and one of the oldest rural banks in the country. It will be 66 years old this December, 2022 and has been operating continuously and successfully, a testament to the prudent manner that the bank's owners have managed the affairs of the bank and services to its depositors and borrowers. There has been an issue of litigation against it by individuals or by the regulatory bodies such as Bangko Sentral or PDIC (which insures all deposits up to P500,000.00) and into this day, the bank has never compromised its adequacy of capital nor the safety of its depositors preferring to maintain a steady if not spectacular growth in its size.
TODAY
Over the years through martial, the Asian crisis of 1997 and most recently the almost global collapse of major economies in 2008 heralded by significant closures of many rural banks, Janiuay Rural Bank has emerged strong as ever. Our current Capital Adequacy Ratio, as measure of capital strength, was 23.96% as of December 31, 2017, stronger than even many commercials bank.
As an indicator of the high regard of the BSP with Janiuay RB, it authorized the opening of a branch in Anini-y, Antique in late 2009(while other banking institution were embroiled in crisis). In March, 2012, the bank commended operation of its Extension Office in Iloilo City, established primarily to service loans and particularly its teacher lending program and offering savings and time deposit accounts for new city depositors as well as deposit and withdrawal services for the bank's Janiuay clients.
