1 Deliver prepared sales talks, reading from scripts that describe products or services, in order to persuade potential customers to purchase a product or service or to make a donation.

2 Contact businesses or private individuals by telephone in order to solicit sales for goods or services, or to request donations for charitable causes.

3 Explain products or services and prices, and answer questions from customers.

4 Obtain customer information such as name, address, and payment method, and enter orders into computers.

5 Record names, addresses, purchases, and reactions of prospects contacted.

6 Adjust sales scripts to better target the needs and interests of specific individuals.

7 Obtain names and telephone numbers of potential customers from sources such as telephone directories, magazine reply cards, and lists purchased from other organizations.

8) Answer telephone calls from potential customers who have been solicited through advertisements.

    Practice active listening - don’t interrupt customers, but engage them. Make sure you understand what they’re asking. Ask questions. You may have scripts and cues to read from, 
  • Multi-tasking ability
  • Excellent problem-solving capabilities
    If one train is heading west at 85 m.p.h. and another train is heading east at 72 m.p.h.
  • Computer experience
    You should be familiar with basic programs (Windows, Excel, Word, etc.) and be able to enter data quickly. Most call centers have some system for recording call information.

    Levels of Independence: Employment Level 1- 100% support at community based volunteer sites, Community Instructor provides high level of instruction and support, hand-overhand instruction, partial participation Level 2- Able to work 2-3 hour stretch, building stamina, Developing an understanding of responsibility and work ethic, Able to complete tasks with some indirect assistance Level 3- Employed in a paid position, Uses tools (charts, checklists), Clocks in/out on own, Job Coach is needed- 75% of the time. Level 4- Taking initiative in finding new tasks when done with what is assigned, problem-solving on your own or with help from natural supports on site, Job Coach support has faded to 50% of the time. Level 5- Able to work very independently, earning a livable wage, financially stable, needs just follow-along support 25% or less (check in’s & random situations). Able to advocate effectively for self, attends work events with your co-workers with little or no support from staff
